700 runners to take on the K24 ultra trail in Črna na Koroškem

This weekend, the Slovenian town of Črna na Koroškem will once again host the K24 ultra trail, expecting around 700 runners from Slovenia and abroad. Now in its fifth edition, the event is considered one of the more challenging races in Slovenia, taking participants across the highest peaks of the Koroška region and even through unique underground mine tunnels.

The most demanding 100-kilometre race kicks off on Friday at 10 PM, while the 50 km and 24 km races will start on Saturday. In addition to the runners, approximately 1,400 supporters and visitors are expected to bring a lively, festive atmosphere to the area.

About 150 volunteers are involved in organising the event, taking care of course marking with over 6,500 flags and ribbons, setting up refreshment stations, and providing safety support for the final runners. One of the route’s highlights is a 6-kilometre section through a mine, where temperatures drop to 8°C, a stark contrast for many participants—especially those starting the 24 km race in 30°C heat.

The race’s founder, Klemen Pušnik, shared that they hope to see new course records in both the men's and women's 100-kilometre categories this year. Several experienced ultra runners are among the registered participants, and organisers have prepared special prizes for those who break previous records.

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday at 7 PM in the centre of Črna na Koroškem. The entire weekend will also be marked by various events as part of the 69th Koroška Tourism Week, running from 8 to 17 August in the town and surrounding areas. Visitors can look forward to sports, cultural, and entertainment events, along with a traditional local fair.
